Did you know Foley's safety calendar updates you on the latest industry events every month?

Each month, Foley’s safety calendar helps you keep an eye on the events and compliance priorities that matter most. Bring on February 2026!

American Heart Month

February marks American Heart Month, making it a timely opportunity for employers to refocus attention on heart and cardiovascular health for their drivers.

It’s no surprise that truck drivers are at high risk for heart disease, considering some of the common aspects of the trucking life. Higher rates of smoking, poor diet (hello, rest stop food!), lack of physical exercise, irregular sleep, and stress are major risk factors for heart disease and strokes.

Schedule Your Driver's DOT Physical Now

What's more, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), truck drivers are twice as likely to be obese compared to other US workers. Being obese or overweight can increase the risk of heart health issues.

That said, simple lifestyle changes, both at home and on the road, can make a big difference in truck driver health conditions. Here are some suggestions to pass on to your drivers:

  • Exercise. Encourage drivers to do simple exercises for 5 to 10 minutes several times a day, especially before driving or during breaks. Start slowly and focus on getting a total of 12 minutes or more of stretching, squatting, or fast walking.

  • Offer drivers aids to help them quit smoking. Even something as simple as smoking cessation audios can help reduce nicotine cravings.

  • Encourage your drivers to cook in their trucks or bring homemade meals along with them on the road rather than stopping for fast food. Also, consider distributing handouts that list healthy food choices and their nutritional value and calorie counts.

  • Teaching drivers about the importance of power naps and sleep hygiene is crucial. Poor sleep is related to weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and dementia. Drivers can black out their cabins, turn off all electronics an hour before bedtime, and even use relaxation or meditation apps for sound sleep.

  • Stress. If motor carriers implement these supportive strategies to promote heart health among their drivers, stress reduction will likely follow.

Having a healthy fleet is a vital step toward having a happy one, too. Check out our other Foley blog articles related to truck driver health:

  • American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA)’s Annual Convention & Traffic Expo

Keep reading to find out more about these February trucking and safety events.

Manifest 2025

Manifest returns Feb. 9–11 at The Venetian in Las Vegas and brings together more than 7,000 supply chain, logistics, and transportation leaders from across the global ecosystem.

With a deep roster of executive speakers from leading global companies, Manifest offers practical takeaways for leaders balancing efficiency with compliance and safety goals.

Super Bowl LVIII

Are you coming for the football, food, commercials, or half-time show? Regardless of your "why," if you watch the big game between Seattle and New England on February 8, you'll be joining millions of viewers, many of whom like to cheer on their favorite team by partying, celebrating, and drinking. And it's that last bit that can cause problems.

To help keep everyone safe on the roads, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with state and local highway traffic safety advocates and organizations to remind football enthusiasts: Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk. Do what you can to spread the word and be safe!

Specialized Transportation Symposium 2026

Scheduled for Feb. 24–26 in Birmingham, Alabama, the Specialized Transportation Symposium is a key event for transportation and safety leaders navigating the complex world of oversize/overweight moves, permitting, and regulatory compliance.

A standout on the agenda is the keynote session “Live Without Limits” featuring adventurer Tom Turcich, who walked 28,000 miles across 38 countries. His message about endurance and perspective aims to inspire industry leaders to think expansively about resilience and problem-solving in safety-sensitive operations.

American Traffic Safety Services Association (ATSSA) Annual Convention & Traffic Expo

Mark your calendar for the 56th Annual ATSSA Convention & Traffic Expo, taking place Feb. 20-24, 2026, at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, Texas. This event brings together thousands of roadway safety, transportation, and infrastructure professionals from public agencies, contractors, manufacturers, and service providers to explore the latest traffic safety products and best practices.

A highlight of the week is the Monday general session, featuring keynote speaker Chad Hymas. After suffering an injury in 2001 that left him paralyzed from the chest down, Chad has become a safety advocate and motivational speaker. His session, “Leadership in the Line of Fire – When Safety Isn’t Optional,” aims to ground everyday decisions in leadership and accountability that matters in regulated operations.

Alongside the expo floor and exhibits, attendees can take part in full-day education sessions, micro workshops, networking receptions, and policy and technical briefings.
